Overview

A 44-inch all-in-one plotter for firms that print, copy and scan in one place

The Epson SureColor T7770DM is a current 44-inch wide-format multifunction printer built for AEC document work: bid sets, permit sets, redlines, as-builts and the occasional color coordination drawing. Print, scan and copy live in one footprint, which matters when your print room is a corner of an office rather than a dedicated department. It uses a five-color inkjet system (black, yellow, cyan, red, magenta) at up to 2400 x 1200 DPI, and Epson rates it at 120 A1 prints per hour in normal-quality mode. Treat that as a headline figure, not a promise — first-page-out time, roll changes and mixed-size sets always cost minutes the spec sheet ignores.

PostScript 3, PDF 1.7 and ESC/P support keep it honest with Bluebeam, Revit and CAD-driven PDF workflows, and Gigabit Ethernet plus 9 GB of internal storage handle networked submission. An optional 1 TB SSD is available where secure job storage or reprint queues matter.

  • Small-to-mid practices that need one device to plot, copy and scan wide.
  • Contractor and CM offices producing mixed monochrome and color sets.
  • Teams archiving legacy drawings via the built-in color scanner.

If your volume justifies uninterrupted long runs, the dual-roll Epson T7770DR 44-in avoids mid-set roll swaps. If you don’t need scanning at all, a print-only sibling saves footprint and dollars.

Ideal for: small-to-mid AEC offices needing one networked device to plot, copy and scan wide-format at moderate, mixed color/mono volume. Not the tool for: high-volume shops running long uninterrupted sets, who are better served by the dual-roll T7770DR.

What you should know

Key takeaways

  • Five-color (adds Red) 44-inch inkjet MFP that prints, scans and copies up to A0.
  • Single-roll design means an operator swaps media on mixed A0/A1 sets.
  • Epson rates A1 output at 120 pph in normal-quality mode; real throughput is lower after RIP and roll changes.
  • 9 GB internal storage enables panel reprints; an optional 1TB SSD extends it.
  • Handles PDF 1.7, PostScript 3 and ESC/P, so most Bluebeam/Revit/AutoCAD jobs print without a separate RIP.
  • For unattended long runs, the dual-roll T7770DR is the better fit; for print-only, the SC-T7700D.

Most AEC print rooms don’t need a plotter and a scanner and a copier sitting in three different corners, each with its own queue and its own person walking back and forth. The Epson SureColor T7770DM folds all three into one 44-inch box: it prints A0 drawings, scans them in color, and copies them without a PC in the loop.

That consolidation is the whole point. The question isn’t whether it prints a clean line — most machines in this class do. The question is whether one device that does everything fits the way your files, people and deadlines actually move.

What it is, in plain terms

The T7770DM is a five-color inkjet MFP: Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Red. The extra red channel earns its keep on coordination drawings, GIS maps and site plans where color separation matters more than photographic accuracy. On plain bond — the paper 90% of your bid sets land on — it handles line work, coated and glossy stock through the same feed.

The scanner is CIS-based and does color scan and copy up to 44 inches wide, with copy resize from 25 to 755% and up to 99 copies per job. A 4.3-inch LCD drives walk-up work. Page languages cover PDF 1.7, PostScript 3 and ESC/P, so Bluebeam, Revit and AutoCAD output land without a third-party RIP for most jobs.

Where it fits — and where it doesn't

The MFP design pays off in one specific place: a shared print room that also scans legacy drawings and copies markups. If you’re archiving old as-builts or turning redlines into distributable PDFs, the integrated CIS scanner removes a whole flatbed-plus-plotter dance. The 9 GB of internal storage lets operators reprint a sheet from the panel instead of hunting the original file — and the optional Epson 1TB SSD extends that considerably.

  • Small-to-mid firms wanting print, scan and copy in one footprint.
  • Print rooms archiving legacy drawings or distributing scanned redlines.
  • Teams running color-coded plans that benefit from the red ink channel.
  • Offices that want walk-up copying without tying up a workstation.

Where it’s the wrong tool: single-roll capacity means an operator swaps media when a mixed A0/A1 set switches paper. High-volume shops that live on unattended long runs should look at the dual-roll Epson T7770DR or SureColor T7072DR. If you don’t scan or copy at all, the print-only SC-T7700D does the same imaging without paying for a scanner you won’t touch. Compare the DM against the print-only D model before you commit.

Estimate a real plot run from the Epson-rated 120 pph A1 speed. Add your own RIP and roll-change overhead — the machine prints faster than your workflow feeds it.

One set: · Weekly plotting time:

Computed from the manufacturer's rated 1,514 ft²/h (a per-page burst rating). Real-world mixed sets run slower — treat this as a best case for comparing machines, not a promise.

IT and running costs

Networking is straightforward: Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi and USB, with an LCD for authentication and job handling at the device. For IT, a single managed node beats three. Consumables are conventional: the Epson Maintenance Box captures waste ink, and the 44-inch roll spindle and auto-cutter blade are the routine wear items. Typical power draw is 90 W, dropping to 2 W in sleep — modest for a machine this size. Budget operator minutes, not just ink: every walk-up copy and every roll swap is a person standing at the machine.

The read

Choose the T7770DM if you want print, scan and copy in one 44-inch footprint and your volume is steady rather than relentless. Choose the dual-roll T7770DR if unattended mixed-size sets are your daily reality, or the print-only SC-T7700D if you never scan. Buy the machine for the workflow you have, not the one the brochure imagines — and remember the scanner is free, but the person standing at it is not.

Questions

Straight answers

What's the difference between the T7770DM and the T7770DR?

The DM is a multifunction unit with an integrated color scanner and copier; the T7770DR is a dual-roll printer built for unattended mixed-size runs. Pick the DM if you scan and copy, the DR if roll capacity and long runs matter most.

Do I need a separate RIP to print from Bluebeam or AutoCAD?

For most AEC jobs, no. It supports PDF 1.7, PostScript 3 and ESC/P natively, which covers typical Bluebeam, Revit and AutoCAD output. Specialized color-managed production may still warrant a dedicated RIP.

Why five colors instead of four, and does the red channel matter?

It uses Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Red. The added red improves color separation on coordination drawings, GIS maps and color-coded site plans — more useful for legibility than for photographic accuracy.

Can it run unattended for large plan sets?

Only within limits. It’s a single-roll machine, so an operator swaps media when a set changes paper size or type. Shops needing hands-off long runs should look at the dual-roll T7770DR or SureColor T7072DR.

How does copying work at the device?

The 4.3-inch LCD drives walk-up copying up to 44 inches wide, with resize from 25 to 755% and up to 99 copies per job — no PC required.

What are the routine consumables?

The main wear items are the Epson Maintenance Box for waste ink, the 44-inch roll feed spindle, and the auto-cutter blade. An optional 1TB SSD adds internal storage beyond the built-in 9 GB.
