Both of Kodak’s listed applications are reproduction work, and the matte, water-resistant finish is what supports them. Matte holds tonal separation in dark areas without a reflection sitting across the image, and water resistance is what allows a stretched canvas to be handled and cleaned rather than treated as fragile.

Ink compatibility

Aqueous dye and aqueous pigment inks are each rated compatible. There is no BEST rating on file for this canvas, and no rating for latex, solvent, eco-solvent or UV-curable inks. Compatible rather than designed-for means this is a canvas to profile properly on your own machine before committing an edition to it.

Working with it

Kodak states that no post-processing or finishing is required, though a clear fixative may be applied to enhance certain areas of the print. Whiteness is 100 CIE — a warm, natural white rather than an optically brightened one, which is what most reproduction work wants under a canvas image. Rolls run 17 to 60 inches wide on 2- or 3-inch cores, an unusually wide span. One specification note worth raising before you order: this product is catalogued as 410 g, while the vendor datasheet on file gives a basis weight of 378 gsm at 18 mil.
