What you should know

Dietzgen 902 is a coated polypropylene banner film: 8 mil, 170 gsm, with a low-glare matte face. Choosing a PP film over a paper banner stock is a durability decision. The base is tear resistant and the coating is water, fade and scratch resistant, which together is what earns 902 its short-term outdoor rating.

Two of those entries are about fabrication rather than printing. Dietzgen lists 902 for grommeted finishing and for welded hems, so the material is specified to survive both of the ways a banner is normally hung. The matte face is the other deliberate choice: a low-glare surface reads cleanly under the mixed overhead lighting a hanging banner usually lives under, where a gloss would throw hot spots.

Ink compatibility

Aqueous dye and aqueous pigment inks are both rated BEST, so this is primarily an aqueous banner film. Latex and UV-curable inks are each rated GOOD — 902 will run on them, but the coating is tuned for aqueous. Solvent and eco-solvent inks are not among its rated chemistries, and toner is not rated either.

Working with it

The sheet measures 90 opacity and 120 CIE whiteness, so it is a bright, near-opaque banner face rather than a translucent one; if the graphic will be lit from behind, this is the wrong material. Where extra surface protection is wanted, Dietzgen states 902 is compatible with pressure-sensitive and thermal overlaminates. It is supplied in roll form only, in a single 42-inch width, on 3-inch cores.
