Dietzgen 430 is an uncoated engineering bond: 4 mil thick, 20 lb basis weight (75 gsm), matte, with a smooth bright-white surface measuring 92 brightness and 145 whiteness. What it is built for is everyday volume. Dietzgen specifies it for good toner and ink adhesion, line acuity and image clarity across multiple print technologies at once, which is what lets a single stocked roll serve a mixed fleet of plotters.
What Dietzgen 20LB Engineering Bond Paper (430) is used for
This is a working-drawing paper rather than a presentation paper. Dietzgen lists it for:
- Everyday production engineering and CAD plotting
- High-volume reprographics runs
- Check prints and hand-marked redlines
- Stapled or bound plan sets
Two details matter for that last group. The surface takes pen and pencil, so redlines and field notes go directly onto the print, and the sheet is compatible with common stapling and binding equipment, which is what you need when plan sets are assembled by hand.
Ink compatibility
Dietzgen gives 430 its BEST rating on two chemistries: toner and HP PageWide. Those are the technologies the surface is tuned for, so it is a natural match for toner-based wide-format devices and for PageWide plotting. Aqueous dye, aqueous pigment, latex and UV inks are each rated GOOD — 430 will run on all of them, but the paper is aimed at line work and drawing output rather than photographic colour.
Working with it
Overlamination is not required. Where prints will be handled in the field, Dietzgen states that 430 accepts pressure-sensitive, heat-assist and thermal overlaminates, which add surface protection against dirt, abrasion and moisture. At 88% opacity it is intended as a single-sided print. Rolls run from 11 to 60 inches wide on 3-inch cores, and cut sheets are available from 12 to 24 inches.
