What you should know

ABAQA 10 Mil White Opaque Backer is not something you print on. It is a white, opaque co-polymer film carrying an optically clear, high-performance, permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive, and it is designed to be applied to thinner print films to give them added stability and colour pop. At 10 mil and 100% opacity it does two jobs at once: it stiffens a limp print into a panel, and it puts a pure white ground behind the image so the colour reads at full strength instead of dulling against whatever the print is mounted on.

The slot-display application is the clearest illustration of why the product exists. A thin printed film slid into a display slot will curl and will let the fixture behind it colour the image. Backing it turns the same print into a rigid, self-contained panel with a controlled white ground.

Ink compatibility

Ratings here describe the printed film this backer is bonded to, not the backer itself. Aqueous dye, aqueous pigment, latex and solvent inks are each rated BEST; UV-curable and eco-solvent are rated compatible. That breadth is the point — the same roll of backer can go behind an aqueous photo print and behind a solvent-printed graphic without changing materials.

Working with it

The adhesive is permanent, so alignment is a one-shot operation; there is no repositioning after the two films meet. ABAQA’s finishing instruction is to let the assembled panel lie flat for a minimum of two hours after application before you trim it or roll it. Skipping that cure invites edge lift and trim creep. Supplied in 38-inch rolls on 3-inch cores.
