What you should know

SIENA250L is the heavier luster member of Magic’s Siena microporous photo family — 10 mil, 255 gsm. Luster is Magic’s term for a slightly textured satin that sits between gloss and matte, and it is the finish most photographic work ends up on: enough surface to hold tonal separation, not so much that the room reflects in it.

That is a different list from the 8-mil SIENA200L, which Magic lists for production posters and everyday photo prints. Same microporous coating, same luster surface; the 250 weight is specified where the print is framed, hung or bound rather than produced at volume.

Ink compatibility

Aqueous dye and aqueous pigment inks are both rated BEST. Latex is rated GOOD. Solvent, eco-solvent, UV-curable and HP PageWide are not among its rated chemistries. This is aqueous photo-plotter stock, which is what the framing and exhibition brief implies anyway.

Working with it

The microporous coating dries prints instantly, so sheets can be trimmed and stacked straight off the printer — a real advantage on a run of exhibition prints where each one is handled individually. Magic also states prints exhibit vivid colours that will not fade on display. The base measures 95% opacity and 130 CIE whiteness. Rolls start at 17 inches and run to 60 on 3-inch cores, so the same paper covers a 17-inch desktop photo printer and a 60-inch production plotter.
