What you should know

KODAK Photo Tex Repositionable Fabric – EX (AQ) is a 13-mil, 305 gsm repositionable fabric made from 40–45% polyester and 40–45% pulp-cellulose. EX is Kodak’s heavier, more aggressive grade of Photo Tex, and the application list tells you why it exists: standard Photo Tex is specified for flat non-porous surfaces, and this one is specified for walls that are not.

Textured walls are where repositionable materials usually fail — the adhesive contacts only the high points of the surface and the graphic lifts at the corners within days. The EX grade is built for exactly that condition. The other two applications are the ones opacity handles: dark walls and overlapped panels both need a base that light does not travel through.

Ink compatibility

Aqueous dye and aqueous pigment inks are each rated BEST. That is a step up from the standard aqueous Photo Tex and the opaque aqueous version, both of which are rated only compatible — so if you are running an aqueous plotter and want the Photo Tex product with a designed-for rating on your chemistry, this is it. Latex, solvent, eco-solvent and UV-curable inks are not rated for this version; a solvent EX listing exists separately.

Working with it

Kodak recommends it outdoors for up to six months without additional protection, and publishes no overlamination requirement. Supplied in a single 42-inch roll width on 3-inch cores, which is the narrowest listing in the Photo Tex family — plan panel layout around it, because wide wall murals will need to be split. One naming note: the product is listed as 6 mil, and the vendor gauge on file is 13 mil, which is the base film plus its liner rather than the film alone.
