Epson SureColor SC-T5200D (Dual Roll)

Load bond on one roll, coated or presentation stock on the other. The machine switches between them without a person walking over to reload. On a bid-set day, that means your mono construction sheets and your color coordination drawings come off the same queue, in order, without babysitting.

The Epson UltraChrome XD pigment ink carries both a Matte black and a Photo black. In plain terms: dark, readable line weights on ordinary bond, and it doesn’t fall apart when you move to coated or photo stock for a presentation board. Media thickness runs 0.003″ to 0.059″, so you’re covered from thin bond up to canvas and scrim.

Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000) and USB Type-B on the back. No Wi-Fi — which most IT directors read as a feature, not a gap. It drops onto a wired network cleanly and speaks Windows back to XP, Mac OS X 10.5, and Linux, so mixed shops aren’t left out.

1024 MB of memory handles ordinary plot spooling. Need PostScript for pulling straight from certain design tools, or on-device job storage? Epson offers the Adobe Postscript 3 Expansion Unit and the Hard Disk Unit as add-ons. Plan for those at purchase, not after the first driver argument.

Typical draw is 61 W running, 3 W standby, 0.5 W off. Printing noise sits around 50 dB — present, not disruptive, in a shared office.

This is a mid-volume AEC workhorse: a busy architecture studio, a multidiscipline engineering office, a GC’s project room that prints its own sets. The dual roll is the reason to choose it over a single-roll sibling. If you never mix media and want to spend less, the single-roll Epson SC-T5200 36-in does the same imaging on one feed. If your team also needs to scan and copy large-format redlines and as-builts, look at the MFP-equipped Epson SC-T5100M 36-in or add the MFP scanner path to your evaluation.

Outgrowing 36 inches? A wider dual-roll model in the same family, the Epson T7770DR 44-in, gives you 44-inch stock and the same load-and-forget dual feed. And if your work is really about wide color graphics rather than CAD sheets, a 60-inch machine like the Canon PRO-4100S 60-in is a different tool for a different job — see the full class ranking.
