KODAK PROFESSIONAL Inkjet Textured Fine Art Paper / 315g is a natural-white matte art paper at 315 gsm on a textured alpha-cellulose base. Kodak states the textured watercolour-type finish replicates traditional artist papers, which is precisely the point — a reproduction of a watercolour or a drawing reads as a reproduction on a smooth sheet, and reads as a work on a textured one.

Both are Kodak’s stated applications, and the choice between this and the smooth 315 gsm paper in the same line comes down to what is being reproduced. A watercolour, a pastel or a drawing wants the texture; a photograph with fine detail generally does not, because a watercolour tooth breaks up exactly the detail a photograph is judged on. Same weight, same line, opposite surfaces.

Ink compatibility

Aqueous dye and aqueous pigment inks are each rated BEST. Latex, solvent, eco-solvent and UV-curable inks are not rated for this paper. Pigment ink is the usual choice for editioned art reproduction, and it is rated at the top level here.

Working with it

Kodak states that no post-processing or finishing is required, and that a clear fixative may be applied to enhance certain areas of the print — a technique that works particularly well on a textured surface, where selective sheen adds depth. Before framing, Kodak recommends waiting 24 hours before placing the print behind glass. The base is natural white rather than optically brightened, consistent with traditional artist stock. Rolls run 24 to 44 inches wide on 3-inch cores.
