7 mil Gloss Photorealistic Paper

GFPHOTO is a smooth gloss photo paper — 7 mil, 185 gsm — engineered specifically for solvent, latex and UV printers to deliver photographic-quality output. That is the distinction to settle before ordering: photo papers are usually built for aqueous plotters, and this one is not. It is the solvent-family answer to the same job.

Dietzgen’s stated ideal application is high-resolution graphics on solvent, latex and UV printers. The gloss finish is what lets the list reach into portraits and fine-art reproduction: gloss is the finish that holds the deepest apparent blacks, at the cost of showing reflections under direct light.

Ink compatibility

Four chemistries, and all four are rated BEST: solvent, eco-solvent, latex and UV-curable. Aqueous dye and aqueous pigment inks are not rated for this paper, and neither is toner or HP PageWide. A shop running an aqueous photo plotter should be looking at the Siena microporous photo papers instead; GFPHOTO is for the solvent and latex side of the floor.

Working with it

Dietzgen states that images dry instantly and exhibit vivid colours that will not fade on display. The first half of that matters in production, because instant dry means prints can be trimmed and stacked as they come off the machine; the second is what qualifies the paper for work that hangs rather than ships. There is no lamination guidance on file for this paper, and none is stated as required. It is supplied in roll form only, 30 to 54 inches wide, on 3-inch cores.
