6 mil Low Tack Window Film, Frosted

ABAQA 6 Mil Low Tack Window Film, Frosted is a polyester window film at 6 mil and 190 gsm with a semi-matte face and a low-tack adhesive. ABAQA calls it a one-step adhesive solution for window graphics, and the phrase is doing real work: a frosted window treatment is normally built up from a separate film and a separate print, where this does both at once.

ABAQA’s stated ideal applications are the first three. The common requirement across all of them is the vendor’s own claim for the material: day- and night-viewable application. A window graphic has to work in two completely different lighting conditions — ambient daylight from outside, interior light from behind after dark — and a frosted film is the construction that handles both without either going flat.

Ink compatibility

Latex and solvent inks are each rated BEST, with UV-curable rated compatible. It is not rated for aqueous printers. No aqueous dye or pigment rating exists on file for this film, so an aqueous inkjet plotter is the wrong machine for it.

Working with it

Low tack is the property to plan around. The adhesive is deliberately weak so the film comes off glass cleanly at the end of a promotion, which also means it is less forgiving of dirty or cold glass at installation — clean and warm the surface properly and the film behaves. ABAQA publishes no overlamination requirement for this material. Supplied in a single 54-inch roll width on 3-inch cores, which sets the tallest single-piece graphic you can produce without a seam.
