What you should know

ABAQA 10 Mil Solvent Blockout Display Film is a blended three-layer construction — polypropylene, a polyester core, then polypropylene again — finished semi-matte at 10 mil and 240 gsm. The number that defines it is 99% opacity. That is what a blockout film is for: an image on one side does not ghost through to the other, which is the failure that ruins a double-sided banner or a retracting roll-up. ABAQA describes it as delivering the image quality of a polyester in a polypropylene construction, and as durable enough that it does not require lamination.

The first three are ABAQA’s stated ideal applications, and they share a shape: a graphic that stands unsupported in a room where light comes from more than one direction. That is precisely where opacity earns its keep.

Ink compatibility

This is a solvent-family film. Solvent, eco-solvent and latex inks are each rated BEST, and UV-curable is rated compatible. It is not rated for aqueous printers. There is no dye or pigment rating on file for this film, so if your machine is an aqueous inkjet plotter this is the wrong roll — ABAQA makes a water-resistant version of the same blockout construction for that side of the shop.

Working with it

Lamination is optional. ABAQA’s own note is that an overlaminate is recommended to protect the image from physical damage and to slow fading, but it is not required for the material to perform. Where you do laminate, allow the image to dry completely before handling or laminating. Rolls run 36 to 54 inches wide on 3-inch cores.
