Photo Tex Opaque Repositionable Fabric / Aqueous

KODAK Photo Tex Opaque Repositionable Fabric / Aqueous is a 13-mil, 305 gsm repositionable fabric made from 40–45% polyester and 40–45% pulp-cellulose. Photo Tex is a wall-graphic family built around one behaviour: it sticks to a flat non-porous surface, comes off cleanly, and can be put back up. This is the opaque member of that family, and the opacity is what it is bought for.

What KODAK Photo Tex Opaque Repositionable Fabric / Aqueous is used for

• Block-out wall graphics
• Graphics over dark-coloured walls
• Overlapping graphics

Those three applications all fail on a translucent material. A graphic applied over a dark wall picks up the wall colour and goes muddy; two graphics overlapped show the seam through the top layer. An opaque base solves both, which is why this version exists alongside the standard Photo Tex.

Ink compatibility

Aqueous pigment ink is rated compatible. That is the only chemistry rating on file for this material — there is no BEST rating recorded for it, and no rating at all for latex, solvent, eco-solvent or UV-curable inks. Kodak builds a solvent version of this same opaque fabric for presses on the other side of the shop; if you run pigment aqueous, this is the aqueous listing, and it is worth profiling carefully given the rating is compatible rather than optimised.

Working with it

Kodak states this fabric is recommended outdoors for up to six months without additional protection — a genuine unlaminated service figure, which is rare on a repositionable material. Indoors, the working life is longer. At 13 mil and 305 gsm it is the heavy end of the Photo Tex range; the standard aqueous version runs 10 mil and 240 gsm. Supplied in a single 54-inch roll width on 3-inch cores. Note that the mil figure includes the liner as well as the base film.
