ABAQA 8 Mil Microporous Gloss Self-Adhesive Polypropylene is a white polypropylene film with a gloss microporous coating and a pressure-sensitive adhesive back. ABAQA states it delivers the true photographic look and feel needed to reproduce advertising-quality photo art on an adhesive-backed PP material, for point-of-purchase displays, retail graphics, long-term indoor signs and short-term outdoor signs.

Because the adhesive is already on the back, the print goes straight onto a board, panel or window with no separate mounting step. That is what makes it a production material rather than a display-only one.

Ink compatibility

Aqueous dye and aqueous pigment inks are each rated BEST. Latex, solvent, eco-solvent and UV-curable are not rated for this film, which makes it the most narrowly specified of ABAQA’s adhesive polypropylenes — strictly an aqueous inkjet material.

Working with it

The adhesive behaviour is the specification to plan around, and ABAQA is unusually precise about it: the pressure-sensitive solvent adhesive removes cleanly for up to 90 days and becomes permanent after 90 days. A promotional graphic pulled at eight weeks comes off clean; the same graphic left up for six months does not. Lamination is optional — pressure-sensitive vinyl laminates increase fade and abrasion resistance, with 24 hours of drying first. One ordering note: the product is sold as “8 Mil” and the vendor gauge on file is 7 mil, measured without the adhesive layer. Supplied in 36-inch rolls on 2-inch cores. Optics are 90% opacity and 85 CIE whiteness.
