Can the Latex 730 W print my bid sets and CAD line work?
It can, but it’s the wrong tool for it. This is a production signage printer built for color and white-ink output; monochrome document plotting is better served by a dedicated aqueous CAD plotter.
What makes the white ink useful in AEC work?
The white ink module, fed by HP 838 white ink through the recirculation hardware, lets you print on clear film, colored substrates and backlit media — useful for jobsite signage, hoarding graphics and presentation display work.
Does it scan or copy?
No. The 730 W is print-only, with no scanning or copying, so it won’t replace a wide-format multifunction device for legacy-drawing archiving.
What consumables and maintenance should I stock?
HP 832 and HP 833 inks, HP 838 white ink and HP 836 printheads, plus the HP Latex 600/700/800 Series User Maintenance Kit and a wiper roller. Latex printers reward a shop with a designated operator handling routine upkeep.
How much space and power does it need?
It’s floor-standing at 588.6 lbs, 101.7 in wide, 33.5 in deep and 55.2 in tall — plan a dedicated production area. It’s ENERGY STAR certified and runs on 50/60 Hz AC.
How should I read the 31 m²/h speed figure?
That’s HP’s rated 334 ft²/h in a Max/Outdoor 4-pass normal mode. Real throughput per shift is lower once you add media loading, curing time and takedown — use the plot-time estimator as a starting point, not a guarantee.
