What you should know
Dietzgen 1383 is a 3-mil polyester (PET) film with a matte coating on one face — single-matte, as against the double-matte films in the same range. It is a toner film, and it is built for one demanding environment in particular: the large-document copier, where heat and roller speed put stresses on media that ordinary film does not survive cleanly.

Dietzgen states that 1383 is specially formulated and treated to minimise the shrinkage, distortion and static that high temperatures in large document copiers can cause. That is a specific engineering claim rather than a general durability one, and it is the reason to reach for this film rather than a generic drafting film in an LDC workflow. The matte face also accepts changes, corrections and notations in pencil and ink, and they can be erased again — the drawing stays a working document.
Ink compatibility
Toner is the only chemistry Dietzgen rates for 1383, and it is rated BEST. There is no rating on file for aqueous dye, aqueous pigment, HP PageWide, latex or UV inks, which is consistent with a film aimed at toner plotters and copiers. For an inkjet plotter, the double-matte inkjet films in the same range are the correct choice.
Working with it
Opacity is 34%, so 1383 is translucent by design and can be used as a reprographic intermediate as well as a finished drawing. The PET base is dimensionally stable and both tear and water resistant, and Dietzgen states the film will not yellow or fade with time or due to ozone exposure. It is supplied in a single roll width, 60 inches, on 2-inch cores.
